After watching "My Neighbor Totoro" I was eager to continue with the classic Japanese movies. That's how I came to "Spirited Away" which I already knew, but I had no idea what it was about.
It turns out that Chihiro's family is moving to their new home, but on the way they take a detour and find a tunnel which they enter. So they arrive in a city that seems to be abandoned but when they see freshly made food they decide to stay and eat. In this way they serve themselves with the idea of paying when the owner or the employees show up.
It turns out that this town is part of a magical and supernatural world. Chihiro's parents are punished for eating food that was not meant for them and are turned into pigs.Chihiro is saved because she didn't want to eat, but now she must help both parents.
Luckily for this girl, a boy helps her.
I am always amazed by the imagination of the Japanese. With that talent they have to create such particular creatures that can be very scary or the opposite, that is, cause us tenderness. At one point a giant baby transforms into a rat, and its appearance is so cute that I couldn't help but remember the beautiful Totoro. Without a doubt, the Japanese are amazing.
The movie is full of adventures for this baby. And as well as receiving help, she also gives it, as when she realizes that her friend Haku is practically dying.
Before watching it I thought it was more childish (like Totoro) but it could easily be enjoyed by a more adult audience (look at me, I'm 27).
I not only consider it one of the best movies I saw this year, but ever.
