I'm not a big fan of superhero movies. However, I was very interested in this one since I liked the previous Wonder Woman movie (not loved it. But liked it).
I liked this second installment much more than the previous one. I felt that they put a lot of desire and "heart" as I heard a youtuber follower of this genre say.
The main story shows us that Diana works as an anthropologist in an institute in Washington. And there she comes across a stone that apparently fulfills wishes. But not only does she do this, but in doing so the stone charges you with something important in return.
This reminded me a lot of the story of the monkey's paw. Which had a similar curse. And while we're at it I remind you that you can find the review here by searching in the blog's search engine.
As I was saying. I love this because the only good thing that can come out of this is chaos itself.
Chaos that led the movie to become apocalyptic late in the movie. With countries about to drop nuclear bombs and the entire population fleeing and screaming.
The film lasts a little over 2 hours. I found the first hour indifferent, not bad at all. But the second hour is when the action really kicks into high gear. From here on I was hooked with my mate on the side watching what Maxwell Lord's plans would end up in.
I love that the villain has his own conflicts. That he's not just evil for the sake of it. But that his life isn't as good as anyone would think. We're talking about a man who does badly in his projects, being practically a failure. However, there is one thing above all others that shows his human side. His son. You can see and it is almost emotional the love he feels for his son. Although he may not be the best at expressing it.
Of course I can't forget to mention the appearance of Cheetah. The second villain that Wonder Woman also has to face. I don't have much to say about her beyond the fact that she is at first half shy and admires Diana a lot. When the stone comes into her hands, Barbara decides to be like Diana. Of course, she never imagined that this meant having the powers of Wonder Woman herself.
I didn't mention it, but part of Maxwell's plan is that everyone makes a wish, so everyone gets their wish granted and this brings millions of consequences. However, due to things that are not necessary to explain, later in the plot people start to give them up. I didn't see at any time that Barbara had done it too. This gives me to think that we will have Cheetah for a while.
In the movie there are super epic scenes like the one where Diana runs down the road in the middle of all those war vehicles to get to the one carrying Maxwell Lord. I could even say it was scary.
Another scene I really liked is when they are in the white house and Wonder Woman along with Steve have to face Maxwell and Cheeta.
The movie starts with an Amazon competition where our princess Diana participates. The funny thing is that Diana is still a child and competes with adult Amazons. The truth is that I didn't really understand the "why" of this scene: to show us that Diana also made mistakes? The thing is that this is not touched again in the whole movie. The emotional scenes are also found in this film. Like the one where Diana has to repent of her desire to regain her powers. And even though I'm not very emotional (with superhero movies) this time this part made me get goosebumps. It's so well acted. Diana's rage and sadness is felt through the screen as she runs away while giving up on her love. I don't know, I thought this was so spot on on on the part of the script.
I always hear that when they talk about a movie they talk about the cinematography, well here the colors are beautiful. They are vivid. They're pastel shades. Of course, when things get apocalyptic those shades disappear to make way for blues, blacks and grays.
In the post-credits scenes we see that Asteria appears walking through the streets. Who is none other than the actress Linda Carter herself. The woman who played Wonder Woman in the 60's series. What does this mean, maybe another installment is coming where Asteria will help Diana with another villain? If that's the case I'd love to see it. That would be a great goal.
It's not all rosy though because I also have my complaints about the movie. I liked almost everything. But when all the people start regretting their wishes I kind of didn't like the way they got people to do it.
But anyway. That's just me being silly.
Have you seen the movie, did you like it?
