Well, I finally saw this movie and I have to say that I really liked it.
The truth is that when I heard that it was going to be released I really wanted to see it in the cinema.
Because the krakens are the good guys and the mermaids are the bad guys (although the mermaids were already the bad guys in other stories, this is not something new).
And I also wanted to see it because the villain mermaid looks suspiciously like Ariel.... mmmmm.
However then I read several opinions where they said that the movie was bad, and that made me want to see it a little bit, and I ended up watching it at home.
But well, going to the plot itself, it's about Rubi Gilman and her weird family, they ran away from home and hide in a small town by the sea. They are krakens. If they are dry they are the size of a normal human, but if the female krakens get wet with sea water they turn into these huge creatures.
That's why the mother of this family forbade Ruby to go into the water, but she doesn't explain why.
Rubi is a teenager, and she has the typical concerns of a teenager. In what was almost a tragedy, Rubi must go into the water and this adventure begins.
This is where this controversial mermaid makes her appearance. Her mission is to befriend Ruby but with an evil goal.
There were several things that didn't convince me, like the fact that the mother didn't go to a more distant town if she didn't want her daughter to go into the sea. Or when everyone sees Ruby turned into a Krakens they don't even freak out.... But hey, it's a kids movie and obviously those things happen. It would be very silly to get so upset about these things.
What is important is that the movie is not boring. I liked both the main character and the villain. The plot develops in such an enjoyable way that you want to keep watching and find out how everything is going to work out.
